The Wild Robot: A guided exploration

The only thing better than reading “The Wild Robot” is reading it with a group of friends!

Get ready for a project-based learning approach to the novel “The Wild Robot.” Each week, kids will be encouraged to read a section of the book* on their own or with a family member. Then we’ll come together and explore our robot Roz, the island, its animal inhabitants and their abilities to adapt and survive. This story is a great read-aloud for families! *Ideally families will have a copy of the book on hand for the full series. It can be purchased at a bookseller or taken out at the library.

Jenn Dextras Tyler Learn more about me

Hello and Bonjour! My name is Jenn. I speak English and French, and have been lucky enough to teach in both languages for over 20 years, from one coast of Canada to the other! I’ve been an elementary school teacher, a home learning parent to my two kiddos, and even drove a huge classroom on wheels (the COW bus!) to teach preschoolers about Science. As a certified Yoga instructor with a background in dance, movement and theater, I believe we are meant to move our bodies in different ways, every day! I am also a student of breathing and meditation, and love to help kids find their own path to mindfulness. My family and I live on Vancouver Island, where we spend lots of time at the beach, hiking and camping. Being outdoors helps me tune in with nature, calm my mind and learn about all the living things around me. When I’m not traveling or teaching, you can find me curled up with a good book or covered in dirt in my garden!

Fun Fact: If I wasn’t a teacher, I’d be a librarian! I love children’s books, especially reading them aloud with different voices and accents.
