Seasonal STEAM Hour - Salmon Life Cycle
From pond to ocean, and back again!
Discover how these amazing fish navigate thousands of miles, leap up waterfalls, and play a vital role in our ecosystem! In this activity, kids will explore the fascinating life cycle of salmon—from tiny eggs in freshwater streams to their epic migration to the ocean and back home to spawn. We will read A Salmon Story by Willie Poll and complete a hands-on craft to create our own salmon-inspired art while learning about each stage: alevin, fry, smolt, and adult.
1 Your Guide
I'm an artist, a speculative-fiction writer, tiny-home dweller, mediocre ukulele player, and a true believer that you can figure out how to make anything you can dream up. Most days, I can be found slinging some mud around on my pottery wheel and trying (and sometimes failing) to prevent my new puppy from chewing on absolutely everything. In addition to my degree in education, I have a bachelors of fine arts and I love volunteering at my local literacy organization! I speak a little German from my time living in Berlin (where I led a weekly STEM club for learners) and I believe every subject in school should be guided through the lens of Art.
I strive to live as sustainably and off-grid as I can. My big dream is to move into a tiny, off-grid, cabin in the forest to make pots all day, especially if I can have a couple of goats (maybe even tiny goats!)
